At SNG, we understand that many people enjoy having pets as part of their family. However, it is important to follow our pet policy, which requires obtaining written permission from us before bringing a pet into your home. This condition is stated in your tenancy agreement. Here's what you need to know:

  1. Guide and Hearing Dogs: We always grant permission for guide or hearing dogs without requiring prior approval.
  2. Leaseholders and Pets: If you are a leaseholder, you are generally not permitted to keep any pets unless it is a guide or hearing dog.
  3. Approved Domestic Pets: We may grant permission for a variety of domestic pets, including cats, dogs, fish, rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters/gerbils, caged birds, and reptiles. However, please note that certain factors such as a history of animal nuisance or the suitability of your property for a particular pet (e.g., keeping a large dog in a small flat) may influence our decision to grant permission.
  4. Prohibited Dog Breeds: According to the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991, you are not allowed to keep the following dog breeds unless you have obtained a Certificate of Exemption: Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, or Fila Brasileiro.
  5. Breeding, Livestock, and Endangered Species: Under no circumstances are you permitted to keep animals for breeding, livestock purposes, or any wild or endangered species.
  6. Permission and Consequences: Keeping a pet without obtaining our permission beforehand may constitute a breach of your tenancy agreement. In such cases, we may request that you re-house the pet within 10 working days. Failure to comply may result in further action being taken against you.
  1. Nuisance Pets: If your pet is causing a nuisance, you will be given a warning to take measures to control its behaviour. If the problem persists, you may be asked to re-house your pet.
  2. Responsibilities and Regulations: It is your responsibility as a pet owner to comply with certain regulations and guidelines. These include ensuring your dog wears a collar with your name, address, and postcode when in public, as well as microchipping your dog, as required by law. Dogs must be kept on a lead at all times in communal areas, and access to children's play areas should be avoided. Proper hygiene must be maintained, preventing fouling in public or communal areas and avoiding property damage. Aggressive or threatening behaviour by your pet towards residents, visitors, staff, or other animals is strictly prohibited.
  3. Stray Animals: If you come across a stray animal, please report it through the appropriate channels. However, please keep in mind that the animal may belong to another tenant. If you know the owner, please contact them directly.

By adhering to these guidelines, we can ensure a harmonious living environment for all residents and their pets. If you have any further questions or require permission for a pet, please contact us directly.
